This makes Bob Dylan the world’s only singer and song writer to win this award. Dylan, 75 years old won the prize for creating new poetic impressions and insights into American song writing traditions.  Dylan has most certainly found a place for himself with other Nobel laureates like Rudyard, Kipling, Winston Churchill and Thomas Mann. This announcement had been received and accepted with gasps at the Royal Academy Hall, Stockholm. Of course, the announcement was followed by lots of laughter.

Songs from Dylan

Dylan’s work dates back by five long decades. Still, is an active song writer and is on frequent tours. He is known for singing at times with a rasping voice. This behavior of Dylan was ridiculed by many detractors. Of course, nothing stands next to Dylan’s dense poetic skills! Mind blowing songs from Dylan would be “Like a Rolling Stone”, “Subterranean Homesick Blues”, “Blown in the wind” and “The times they are a-changin”. These songs captured interesting emotions like freedom, revolt and dissent. “Blown in the wind” was worded during early 1960s. The song became very famous and was considered as one of the most eloquent folk songs of the era. “The times they are a-changin” became an anthem for the Vietnam War protests and civil rights movement.

The Swedish Academy believes that Bob Dylan is an icon of great status. His hand on contemporary music is prominent and unbeatable. In simpler words, Dylan is one of the world’s finest and greatest living poets.

Many people are not prepared to accept Dylan’s poetic skills. For example, Novelist Normal Mailer claims, “I am a basketball player if Dylan is a poet!”

You Decide.
