The early stages of these smart fibers can be used to charge your mobile phones and tablet devices. Chinese researchers who are behind this technology believe that you can charge smartphones using your clothes easily.

The brainchildren

Wenjie Mai and Xing Fan (the brainchildren of this innovation) claim that the product is for every day usage. Results of research are published in ACS Nano – American Chemical Society’s scientific journal. Their article proves that garments are much more than presentable, warm and comfortable clothing options. In fact, there are special shirts to track fitness levels, heart beat rates and the sleeping pattern of babies.

How is it beneficial?

The solar powered smart fibers don’t collect any bio-metric details. But, it is capable of addressing two challenges that are faced by the modern world. The smart fabrics can satisfy our crave for energy and will help us charge devices. The fabrics can serve its purpose, without releasing greenhouse gases or burning non-renewable sources of energy.

Two major components

These clothes are made of two components: a fiber super capacitor and a dye sensitized cell. The fiber super-capacitor can be charged, discharged and used to store electrical energy. A palm sized smart fiber can be charged to 1.2 volts. Conversely, these components can be woven together to form a stylish apparel.
