Taliban fighters are advancing deeper into Kunduz city
According to the media reports, the Taliban fighters have captured the strategically important city of Kunduz in the northern part of Afghanistan. Afghan Member of Parliament of Kunduz has also confirmed the reports of Taliban capture. While in a tweet, NATO has noticed increased Taliban activity in the strategic city.
The confirmation of media reports by the local residents has put questions on the Government’s deliberate move to hide the situation.
Afghan and U.S. officials were denying the threat of an afghan strike. This is the second time, when Taliban captured the city as in September 2015, NATO and afghan forces had to clear the city through a joint operation.
In a statement of popular media channel, the Taliban spokesperson has confirmed their control on the city and they also indicated rapid advancement throughout the city.
Heavy gun battles are going on in various parts of the city and there is a chance of massive migrations from the affected city to other parts.
People are leaving the city due to the possible military operations by afghan and American forces.
People fear that here is high probability of civilian causalities and that Taliban might use the human shield tactics for fleeing.
The streets of the city resemble the empty desert and almost all the shops have been closed in the prevailing fear of heavy gunfire.
Even after 800 targeted air strike in 8 months of 2016 by NATO, the afghan forces still does not seem to be in a position to take over the control of cities under threat.
